Living in the moment has taken on new meaning in 2020. While I can’t help but wish away time until we are all vaccinated, one silver lining are the moments I have with my adult children who are home again due to COVID restrictions. My son actually loads the dishwasher and does some grocery shopping. My daughter cooks dinner occasionally. They’ve actually grown up! I’m getting a peak into their adult lives and seeing who they are becoming. It has been a welcome change compared to the usual texting and very occasional live conversation. They in turn have learned what it takes to keep our small family business alive through a pandemic. They’ve experienced it alongside us and have a new respect for what their parents and everyone here at Habitat does.
This past January, just before the pandemic hit, we signed a lease on a new warehouse. Although the timing was horrific, we truly needed the extra space. We moved in November and it feels like a fresh start. We will put 2020 behind us, grateful to have survived, and hope for a much better year ahead.
With 2021 upon us, I am excited for the upcoming Spring season. I imagine spring activities starting the moment we see temps in the 50’s now that we’ve all stocked up on outdoor heaters, fire pits and cozy blankets. Restaurants will reopen, gyms will start outdoor workouts again, we will start gathering outside with our extended families. We will get dressed again!
Until then I’m inspired by a recent quote from Tom Ford: “Let’s remember that after the Spanish-flu pandemic we had the Roaring Twenties. It is human nature to self-adorn and want to express one’s personality and mood through clothing.”
Habitat’s Spring 2021 collection will be ready.
Thank you for all your support this year!
Wishing you a happy and healthy new year!
