Spring 2019 Inspiration

For me Spring is all about the return of warmth, the changing light and more time spent outdoors with friends and family. As with most designers, I’m often asked what my inspiration for the season is.

That’s hard for me because it’s never just one thing. I admire designers who take a trip to Marrakesh and come back with their inspiration for the season. That’s just not me. My first inspiration is always you. I think about what you would wear and enjoy. Seeing you wearing our clothing and sharing pictures with us is the best inspiration I could possibly hope for.

I started designing our current Spring line over a year ago in December when the warmth of Spring was many months away. It’s always challenging to imagine lighter fabrics, brighter colors and shorter sleeves when temperatures dip to their lowest and we’ve just finished shipping the last of our fluffy fall sweaters.

Whether you’re meeting friends for coffee and a brisk walk, heading to the movies or out to your favorite museum, my goal is to design pieces that will work for wherever your lifestyle takes you. Comfort, practicality and style have equal importance in my mind and this couldn’t be more true for Spring ’19.

I started by focusing on new travel friendly textures, beautiful prints, unique buttons and fresh new ‘complexion friendly’ colors. While many Fashion Trend Experts are touting padded shoulders, higher waisted pants, neon colors and tie dye. I’m not ready to return to the 80’s just yet!

1. Color

Black and white is here to stay of course, but this Spring face friendly pinks, blues and corals all look great to me.

2. Details

I do love all the new sleeve details from ties to flounces to deep cuffs.

I’m obsessed with buttons. A great button can change a garment completely.

Ruched face framing collars with wire or elastic in the collar are a favorite detail of mine. They are so flattering and feminine.

3. Prints

Polka dots are all around us in every shape, size and color this year.

4. Stripes

Mixed and matched or clean and bold, stripes are a classic wardrobe staple.

5. Cozy Fabrics

I love all the soft comfy knit fabrics this Spring. Soft colors in these fabrics are so enticing.

About Suzanne

I design my collection for real women leading real lives. We all want to look relevant and current, but in our own way, reflecting our own sense of self and style. While I’m guilty of pouring over the latest fashion magazines, I’m often thinking, “Who wears that?”. I aim to enhance your style, not dictate it.
